Volunteers Needed for Water Quality Monitoring on Ebenezer Creek –
Training Session Scheduled for October 1st

A workshop to train volunteers to monitor water quality in Ebenezer Creek is scheduled on Sunday, October 1st, from 1:45 to 5:00 p.m. The program begins with an overview at the New Ebenezer Retreat located at 2887 Ebenezer Road, Rincon. Field instruction and sampling will follow at Tommy Long Landing on Ebenezer Creek. The session is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested. Participants will learn how to collect and test water samples from Ebenezer Creek. The data that are collected will create a baseline of information about the nature and trends of quality of the water in the creek. This information will serve to establish baselines on the water quality as well as an early warning system for pollution and/or unexpected changes in the waters of Ebenezer.

The establishment of a water quality monitoring program on Ebenezer Creek is critical to addressing concerns about integrity of the resources and natural systems on the creek. The success of any such monitoring efforts depends entirely on the interest and involvement of citizens who care about this area.

Sponsored by Friends of Ebenezer Creek, the session is being taught by Luke Roberson of the Ogeechee Riverkeeper group. Another training session, scheduled for November 5th, will be taught by Jacob Oblander of the Savannah Riverkeeper. These sessions and collecting programs are conducted in concert with the statewide Adopt-A-Stream program.
